When we see a homeless man begging on the side of the road it evokes different emotions in us. If he appears out of touch with reality, we feel fear. If he is an alcoholic and begging for money, we feel anger, assuming his alcoholism is what landed him on the streets in the first place. What we don’t realize is that in many instances, people who are homeless are often mentally ill and on no medication. It is common for drugs and alcohol to be used in an attempt to self medicate, leading to addiction problems.

Mental illness strikes new victims each day, robbing them of a quality of life that most people maintain on a daily basis. Those of us who live with a sound mind are often unaware of the suffering the mentally ill endure unless we have a friend or relative who has this disease. In silence it attacks the mind, rendering it powerless without some kind of intervention. In turn, the one suffering is forced to depart from all that he or she has known as normal and enters a private hell from which there is no escape. To be a prisoner of your own mind is a tragedy that that is incomprehensible yet intriguing at the same time. Often used as a platform for movies and entertainment, it is anything but entertaining to the one who is in its grips.

Isolation creeps in as friends and family keep their distance when behaviors become unpredictable and bizarre. Forced to face the frailty of the human mind we often turn our heads in an attempt to maintain our own strong standing when we see that this disease is not a respecter of persons. Where does that leave the sick? Imprisoned, alone and friendless. This, in itself, is the greater tragedy. In a world where there is so much information and insight there is no excuse for such ignorance. What do the mentally ill need from us the most? They need understanding and compassion, but most of all, they need a friend. Be one.

A person suffering with severe bipolar disorder shoplifts an armload of clothing during an attack of acute mania. He or she is sent to prison, to co-exist with gangbangers, rapists, and murderers. Or, perhaps worse, to live in a solitary cell with no human interaction, for 23 out of 24 hours each day. The acute mania shifts to severe depression.

In my practice, I have met many misconceptions about mental illness from patients and their relatives. I can’t blame them. Mental illness has not been understood for a while. In fact, it has created a stigma that people dismiss its importance and its impact in their lives. Some even hide their emotional difficulties from the scrutiny of their close friends and loved ones.

The Cure for Mental Illness is not one specific cure, but having suffered greatly in the past and now tasting freedom, I know there is a cure. It’s not a formula, but it is using the biblical tools God leads you to use. It’s a combination of things converging for YOUR freedom (or the release of a loved one or friend.) It’s a prescription from the Great Physician, Dr. Jesus Christ.

Integral to educating people about mental illness is dispelling myths. Hayes points out that mothers do not cause mental problems in their children, although their depression may affect a child’s development of it. However, it is just as likely a mother can prevent mental problems in her child. Hayes states, “Nurture mental wellness in a new mother and she then can nurture it in the child.

So are social worker’s fears well-founded? How much protection does the ADA really afford those with mental illness? According to Paul Appelbaum, MD, professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University, Past President of the American Psychiatric Association and chair of the APA’s Council on Psychiatry and Law, to qualify for the ADA, a person has to be impaired and “substantially limited” in one or more life activities.

Mental illnesses are not inherited. The similarities in behavior and dysfunction are not due to the actions of genes or other hereditary influences. Rather, the similarities result from a child (then, teenager and adult) enacting subconscious negative agreements and selfish behavior pattern-ideas that were taken-on (downloaded) from the parent displaying similar behavior. This subconscious child-to-parent agreement and pattern idea transfer will make the child appear “like” that parent.

Other mental illness symptoms are known to include a lost of interest in happiness and enjoyment and the tendency to social isolation when most people feel powerless, lonely and disconnected from other people and the world around them.

In such cases a person suffering of mental disorder is known to lose interest in former hobbies, sports, past times and social activities. Very often a mental sickness of different kind from depression to bipolar disorders is expressed as an irritable mood and explosive behavior.

RECOVERY:

Ten years ago when my son became ill with paranoid/schizophrenia all we could think of was that ‘this illness will go away soon and all will be well’. But it wasn’t quite that simple and there certainly are too many stories to tell now. Once you have seen your loved one go to the depths of ‘hell’ all you want is for them to be “OK”, well, anyway that was what we thought.

Having a withdrawn behavior and “lonely” attitude are some of the more important mental illness symptoms that need to be looked out for by family members and friends. Withdrawing from family life and social activities that had been previously enjoyed by the individual is one such symptom.

Description:
Mental illness doesn’t care about race, age, religion, education level or income; it can affect anyone, even celebrities. Research shows that as many as one in five Americans have a diagnosable mental illness. Many don’t seek treatment out of fear of rejection or discrimination, since the stigma surrounding mental illnesses is still intact and going strong.
But the stigma is slowing being broken, as more and more sufferers come forward to talk about their illnesses. Many celebrities that previously struggled in silence have come forth. Coming from the mouth of the rich and famous, it seems people are more inclined to listen to the outspoken heroes of their favorite films and television shows.

In the spirit of supporting people with mental illnesses, I decided to go through a lot of research and find beloved anime characters who turns out to have actual mental illnesses through their respective anime. This isn’t done in the spirit of disrespecting anybody, quite the opposite, spreading the word i like to believe helps the cause. If you guys can think about more Anime who have mental illness, feel free to add them in the comment section below. I’m curious to see the ones i might have missed. I hope you guys will enjoy this video.
