BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVE CITIZENS UGANDA –ACU

Active citizens Uganda –ACU is a voluntary organization that was initially started to bring together media practitioners for community development projects but later opened for other individuals who may wish to provide voluntary services and activities in Mbarara district and Ankole region in Uganda.

It started in January 2017 with five members and now has 28 Ugandan citizens and was registered legally in May the same year to run and achieve voluntary programmes ranging from: education and sports, tourism, poverty eradication, health, hygiene and sanitation, environment.

The organization is composed of members with different skills and professions such as doctors, teachers and headteachers, police officers, businessmen and women, accountants, journalists, mechanics both men and women who after proposing specific projects pool their own resources and fund the implementation of these projects.

The organization is currently running a programme restoring degraded wetlands in Ankole sub region and so far two wetlands are undergoing restoration in Buhweju and Mbarara districts and Active Citizens Uganda-ACU wish to have the wetlands in Ankole region fully restored by stopping encroachment and evicting those who have already encroached the wetlands in order to mitigate the negative impacts of degrading wetlands such as drought, famine, lack of water, floods etc.

ACU carries out all its proposed projects in conjunction with the relevant government departments, ministries and authorities in order to have clearly sustained achievements of these projects for better and improved local and urban communities of Uganda.
ACU is seeking and looking forward to get individual and organisations and even government bodies to partner with us in order to make sustainable development.
