The human body runs on food. Once, food shortage was the major concern. After the second world war, technological advances in food production led to a new era, that was characterized by an overabundance of inexpensive food, and relatively little physical activity. In the decades that followed, other sociocultural shifts continued to contribute to the changing way we ate. Women who had previously controlled most of the average family’s food preparation now entered the workforce in significant numbers. And the processed food industry began to capitalize on our need for fast, convenient food.

This meant that fewer meals were being cooked at home. And since convenience foods were generally higher in calories than home-cooked meals, the average person’s caloric intake increased dramatically.

Maya Adam, MD, is waging a battle cry against one of America’s most critical – and challenging – public health crises of our generation: childhood obesity. A lecturer at Stanford School of Medicine and in Stanford University’s human biology program, she is leading the cause through education.

    I'm 7:00 in and already there is misinformation.

    Free fat, such as oils added to foods, IS a problem. It's not a problem, just as with sugar, if you eat natural foods containing fats such as avocados and seeds. There is no need to go back and forth about this, between fat and sugar being the problem, it's the refined and processed foods that are unnatural to humans that are the problem.

    Also, he states that saturated fat is not a problem, but it is. Saturated fat remains solid at room temperature, mainly because it is fat that that comes mostly from animals, which need to maintain solid fat in a warm body. Humans that eat human foods do not get much saturated fats unless they are eating coconuts everyday.

    The proper foods for humans are whole plant foods, we are not suppose to be eating anything refined or processed, and definitely not suppose to be eating animals or like animals. If you eat animals you are eating like a dog or cat, and you can see what that diet is able to produce, a quadruped with a smaller brain. Higher intelligence bipedals eat 99% plant based, and if they had access to it they would almost exclusively eat fruits.

    I have been plant based for 15 years, making this change has cured me of crohn's disease and I have only had 2 colds in 15 years and NO FLUS. I also haven't required dental work for 15 years as a natural diet does not rot your teeth, and the high mineral and vitamin content of a whole foods plant based diet will keep your teeth strong.

    If you eat the proper food, which does not contain any harmful substances, viruses and bacteria, you will rarely if at all become sick. Another plus is your aging will slow significantly, Although I am in my 40's I still look to be around 20. I actually look YOUNGER than I did when I was 25.

    I lost 55 pounds in 6 months. No sweets, no hfcs, no aspertame, no diet food, no food from packages nor boxes, no restaurants, making my own homemade soup, no canned food, greek yogurt with fresh fruit, pure oatmeal not from a package with fruit, lots of fruit and veggies, eggs, whole wheat bread, no white bread, no white rice, lots of legumes or beans, brown rice. Do not believe any "Diet" food claims. They have at least 10 different names for sugar. The sugar industry just shut down a study linking sugar to cancer. They have money and lobbyists. Big Pharma is in bed with big business and want customers not cures for clients. CANCER IS A BUSINESS.. Chemo only works 4% of the time. 75% of Doctors would not get Chemo nor would they let their family get it. The Government funds a lot of research to try to debunk clinical studies that say Cancer can be reduced by eating healthy and avoiding processed foods and sugar and artificial sweeteners. The only way to get healthier is for your body to heal itself from the "good bacteria" in your cells. Antibiotics kill trillions of your good "gut" bacteria. Who knows the side effects from kids getting 10 Vaccinations?

    This last advice to parents! Ohhh.. I wish they listen!! I work in a mini market where I sell tobacco, sodas, chips and all kinds of nasty candies, chocolates and croissants. Every day parents and grandparents come with their children/grandchildren and urge them, even push them to choose anything they want. It's disgusting how people think they show their love by giving their loved ones what they want, or what is considered desirable by others (there was a kid once that didn't want anything but his grandfather was pushing him hard to pick something and so he did), instead of what is actually good for them. Love is caring for someone's well-being, not for you feeling that you are a good parent by spoiling your kids with all kinds of nasty things. That's ego, not love!!

    Is sugar the world’s most popular drug?
    Soda and Starbucks have too much sugar and fat in their drinks.
    Food should not be bad for you…… processed food has too much fat, salt, sugar and additives in them making them unhealthy. People need to go to their favorite food processors website, click on the CONTACT link and send them an email asking them to reduce the amount of fat, salt, SUGAR and ADDITIVES in the foods they produce. Their common answer is that they are producing what the customers want. You have to let them know that consumers want healthier food choices with less salt, fat, SUGAR and ADDITIVES in them. It only takes a minute to send them an email, tweet, call or text.  Food should not be bad for you. There is an obesity epidemic leading to increases in heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer.

    600.000 Groceries in America, 80% contains added Sugar :S Whole Grains, this women is clearly not educated in anything, as on the GI Scale, pure Table Sugar scores 64, Whole Grain Bread 70… This is exactly the problem, when people don't get their science straight! Not to mention, we were never meant to eat Grains! LOL Important for our health, no we don't need a simple 1 Gram of Carbohydrates a day, it is simply not needed by any single function in the body! Brown Rice contains Arsenic, why does so many idiots think that it is better to eat that? Incase you're too stupid to know what that is, look it up, and you'll never eat that crap again!

    The processed food and 'large agricultural' industry is quite robbed of ethics. They just lore the FDA into being 'friends' with them, though the FDA denies conflict of interest. Hell, foreigner nations condemn such food additives. No offense to the U.S, thus it's quite a 'free nation,' it's more corrupt than insisted(though it's decent), and close minded, claiming "we're the strongest and best," alright sure the Russian Federation has low political freedoms, but take a look at what Russia and Mr.Putin did. GMO ban, though take a look at Obama who claimed to care so much, and condemned Putin's actions, he just gave Monsanto 'federal immunity.' Bull crap, he pulled a bait and switch, he earlier claimed in his campaign: "Americans have the right to know what they're buying." And please STOP ONLY COUNTING CALORIES. THE CORRUPT FOOD INDUSTRY DECIDES TO USE THE PEOPLE'S 'IGNORANCE' TO THEIR ADVANTAGE, BY MARKETING CRAP FOODS AS HEALTH FOODS such as "diet sodas." Well that's worse, and more synthetic crappy so called "food and drink." Though fat is notorious, which trans fat is evil, though even Monounsaturated fat fats are notorious. And about consuming less sugar, that has a purpose. It's alright if you're eating calories, that's not the enemy, it's transfat(already dead), FOOD ADDITIVES(worst enemy), GMOs and Pesticide sprayed Produce(crap), and sugar, though what's substituting sugar is worse than sugar itself.
