As the cyclical and seemingly never ending debate about education rages on, the topic – somewhat ironically, often poses more questions than it provides answers.

But what is the value of mainstream schooling? Why is it that some of the most high profile and successful figures within the Western world openly admit to never having completed any form of higher learning?

Paying homage to Jefferson Bethke’s “Why I Hate Religion but Love Jesus”, a piece that received 22 million views in the space of a week, I address a number of these issues in my offering “Why I Hate School, but Love Education”.

With scores of school leavers wanting to further their education with no guarantee of their dream job at the end of it, we should ask ourselves whether qualifications still hold the same value now as they did in previous years?

Does success in the school system correlate to success in life? Or is the school system simply geared towards fact retention and regurgitation?

What is true education?

  8. Xavier Arauz says:

so where do we learn -.- it's not like we can create technology out of air without knowing alot about electrical engineering and mathematics… do you know the science behind the camera your using? yeah, engineers created that and they studied from colleges.

  9. Som Ebody says:

I believe the world should focus more on morals than intelligence, many people are simply learning so much but, they're doing it to be 'superior'. To be 'better'.
This shouldn't be why. A classroom is a competition, really. The idiots are frowned upon. Why? What if this is just the way we are.
Do you think you will benefit from those good grades, or will the school? Do you think you will benefit from those exhausting, tiring, and boring jobs, or will the government?
I don't see how people can be so brainwashed, children are told, if you get good grades, you get a good job.
No, if you get good passion and willpower, you get a good job.
What makes a good job? The money or how you feel about it? You tell me.

  10. Will James says:

"EDUCATION IS WHAT REMAINS AFTER ONE HAS FORGOTTEN WHAT ONE HAS LEARNT IN SCHOOL"
    (Albert Einstein)

  11. Brock lesnar says:

You make me so smart bro no I think i like the school now

  12. Nhat Phu Tsoi says:

You have so many wrong opinions about school, yes school is a horrible place, in my way of thinking you just need to get to understand the lesson and if you dont then ask your question to your teacher or if not go ask that one friend who's super great at the subject. In my country if you understand the lesson then the exam is no trouble. And your quote is somewhat wrong, there are tests that will decide your future,so give it a thought before making it a quote.

  13. therapydj says:

  19. Ondra Hrdy says:

I'm not that selfish to use that information just for myself. I think this is an important lesson and I want to change this problem to solution for everyone. At least in my country.

  20. 6IXShooters says:

It's harder to become successful like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates because they've advanced technology to a new level. You have to now learn up to par with their technology to advance. Back when they were successful, technology weren't as sought out on computers.
