Article marketing is an excellent way to help your prospects to find you online. You may think that you must write articles that are similar to what you would read in trade journals and other magazines in order for this to be effective, but this is simply not the case. In fact writing like that can often be just the opposite of what you need to be successful.

Writing short, succinct articles that teach the reader something about your topic are best. Writing at the high school level will also be best, and I will discuss that in further detail. Think of your writing as an opportunity for people to get to know you better and to learn more about what you have to offer. People read articles on the internet by scanning them generally. Do not think that you have to write articles like a college professor in order to be successful at article marketing.

The minimum word count on some article directories, such as EzineArticles, is two hundred fifty words. Other sites require more words before they will accept your writing for submission. The ideal length in order to attract new prospects and clients for your business is between three hundred and four hundred words. This is the case for several reasons.

People reading online may have a shorter attention span and just want to get to the point of what they are reading. Even if they come from an academic background, they do not want to read something that takes too long or goes into that much detail. Also, many readers do not read English as their first language. Take all of this into consideration when writing on your topic.

Write in a relaxed and conversational tone. The idea is for people to get to know you better and to be able to find out more about your topic. By keeping your writing more simple you will reach more people and have more success in bring them back to your site to connect with you further.

The most important thing about article writing is that you just get started. Stop making excuses and get started. When you do you will overcome your problems with writing and with practice you will become very effective at writing articles that will give great information to your clients. The time to start is now, the longer you delay the more you will miss out.

Would you like to get more clients?  How about clients who’ll be glad to pay you more money?  Think about what it might take to get there.  And read on for a seven-step process in which article marketing will help you accomplish that.

In order to get more clients, it helps if those prospective clients have a way to find you.  Sure, you’re doing all the usual networking, but you can’t possibly reach all the people you could potentially be working with.  And these days, when someone is looking for a new service, guess where they go.

No, they won’t be going to your local networking meeting.  At least most of them won’t.  They go online, probably to Google.  And you want to make sure that they’ll find YOU when they do.

And not only that, but when they find you, they’ll need to be convinced that you’re someone they want to do business with.  And the way to convince them is to build a relationship with them.

So how will articles help you with that?  Follow these seven steps and if you do it correctly, you’ll soon find yourself with more clients.

1) You write articles that are optimized for the kinds of words and phrases your customers use when they’re looking for what you offer.

2)  You publish them on an authority site that gets high rankings on Google.  The best one is EzineArticles.com

3)  Some of your articles will appear on the first page of Google when your prospective clients are looking for the keywords you used.

4)  Your prospects will see them when they look for your services — and articles provide information, so they’re likely to check them out.  Besides, they’ll make you look like an authority on the subject, so they’ll inspire trust.

5)  At the bottom of each article, there’s a resource box, and if you’ve written a good article and have added an enticing offer, your future clients are likely to click on your link and go to your website.  Either that, or they’ll sign up for your mailing list.

6)  Your website must be appealing, of course, and should also provide an incentive to join your mailing list.  So if they haven’t signed up before, the goal is to get them to do so now.

7)  You have set up an automated mailing system that will send your prospective clients valuable information on a regular basis — plus the occasional great offer.  That will build a relationship with them, and by the time you meet them, they’ll feel like they’ve known you for ages.
