Freelance writing is one of the many ways to make money on the Internet and is perhaps the easiest and fast is to get into. I started making a considerable amount of money out of it after just a couple of months which compared to many other genuine online business ventures, is certainly quick and easy money.

I use freelance writing to fund my travels nowadays and I greatly regret not getting into it several years ago as I would never have had to come home on a frequent basis to start working again and saving up for my next jaunt around Europe. Freelance writing is not so well suited to people who like to travel quickly but if you’re on the road for a long time, and you tend to travel slowly, then freelance writing is an amazingly effective way to keep on your travels. Of course, it is good for just about anyone who wants to be able to work from home and be at liberty to work when and where they want.

It is very easy to find freelance writing jobs and there are quite a lot of sites and directories to choose from where people regularly post all sorts of jobs from web design to content writing. Finding these jobs can literary happen overnight but it will take a little bit longer if you want to find a decent and well paid jobs. Making sure you uploaded decent profile is a great bonus as is being a native English speaker.

To get started, you will typically need to send some samples to prospective employers and yes, you do need to be able to write well. However, it is not the same as writing for newspapers and a lot of the work is indeed rewriting for search engine optimisation. The cheaper projects tend to supply all the research material you need so you can get the job done super quickly.

The amount of money you earn is not only dependent on how much the employer pays you, but even more importantly, how fast you can actually produce an article. If you are writing articles based on research that you have been supplied by the employer, you could probably turnover 5 to 6 articles an hour of four and to five hundred words each. Any respectable employer will pay you at least $ 2.50 for a 400 word article so that’s already up to $ 15.00 an hour. However, if you are fairly good at what you do, you can probably earn almost twice that.

The only things you need are a computer and Internet access and if you have a laptop, you can pretty much work anywhere in the world so long as there is an Internet supply. If you want the freedom of being able to work at home or on the go, then freelance writing is possibly the best way to start since it requires absolutely no investment, not much time to get into are not necessarily great deal of specialist knowledge.

About the Author

If you have the knack for writing and if you enjoy working from home, I suggest that you sink your teeth into freelance article writing. You will write articles for individuals and companies that are running an online business. Depending on the amount of time that you put in, you can easily make thousands of dollars from this endeavor. Here is how you can get started:

1.First, I would recommend that you attend relevant seminars in preparation for this new endeavor. I am glad to tell you that there are now several successful freelance writers who are offering webinars and training programs to help people like you who would like to start a career in freelance article writing. I can guarantee you that you will benefit from their expertise and experience. They can surely offer you with tips and techniques on how to get ahead of the pack and how not to commit costly mistakes.

2.Write articles that you can send as samples to your potential buyers. This is very important especially to people like you who are just starting out in this endeavor. Your prospects would surely want to get an idea about your skill level. What I suggest is that you write several articles and post them on your blog and to article directories. You can then send the links to those people who are interested in doing business with you.

3.Get small projects first. You would want to test the waters first. So, instead of committing yourself to completing large projects (50 or more articles), I suggest that you start signing up for small project (5 10 articles) first. This way, you will not feel overwhelmed too soon. You can start increasing your load once you get the hang of it.

4.Know how to promote your article writing service online. One thing that you need to understand is that your prospects will not call or email you unless you initiate the communication. These people cannot do that if they are not even aware that you exist in the online arena. So, promote product awareness and attract business to your doorstep.

The best tools to use are the following; blogging, ezine publishing, article marketing, forum posting, video marketing, and social media marketing. Each time you sell yourself and your services, make sure that you give your prospects ample reasons to trust you. Always put your best foot forward and tell these people the things that differentiate your service from your competitors.

5.Join freelancing sites. You will quickly find article writing projects to work on by joining popular freelancing sites. In here, you will be allowed to bid on projects that you find interesting. The challenge here is outshining other bids to convince your prospects to choose you. Since you are just starting out, it will help if you charge a bit lower, if you promise quicker turnaround time, and if you offer further assistance like revising the articles (if needed) until your customers are completely satisfied.

If you want to become a Freelance Article Writer, I don’t want to discourage you in any way. However please be advised that there is a ton of competition currently in this arena. I mean there are tens of thousands of people right now, many with an established reputation that are freelance writing for others. However the demand for this service is also extremely high so if this is something you want to do, let me give you some quick pointers that will help you excel in this area and stay in this business as long as you want. I also suggest not getting into this field unless you have a solid grasp of the english language, can type at a decent rate and are willing to spend a lot of your time doing client work. Okay I’ve said it, lets get into the meat of things now.

The first thing you should do if you want to become a Freelance Writer is get a basic grasp of Search Engine Optimization both from the on-site and off-site perspective. This means you should lead by example and have a website of your own you refer people to. Make some samples, since in most cases you can’t use your client’s content since you’ll be creating it unique for them, and post them on your website. This will go a long way in establishing trust with potential future clients since they will want to see samples of your work which will build essential trust. Also make sure your website is neat and orderly. And spend some time getting links to your new website and keep a contact form on it so clients can contact you right through your website.

Another tip is not to be the cheapest writer out there, but the best. People will easily pay double for your services if you are giving them content that will truly help them dominate their market. The standard rate for a 500 word article is $ 6.00 per article. However why not charge $ 12.00 per article but make their articles around 1000 words with good upper level english implemented in them. If you just wrote 3 articles like this per day for clients you’d make $ 36.00 per day. No that won’t get you rich but it could cover a lot of your bills each month or put cash in your pocket while you’re going to college without having to say “Want fries with that shake?”. Not to mention you’re working for yourself at your house which will save you gas and wear and tear on the car.

Once you get a decent client base you can start charging more for writing longer sales letter for people as well. You can make thousands of dollars for writing long-copy once you can get people to trust you. Billions each year are made marketing products and services on the net, and each retail store will need custom descriptions, each product will need a sales letter and just about any website that wants to make sales will need quality articles written for it and submitted to the top article directories. Writing is a very dignified job that can earn you a great supplementary income if you approach it right, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Just make sure you collect payments for new clients up front if they find you on the web.

As far as getting clients, you can solicit your services on Elance, Scriptlance, Odesk and Guru just to name a few. There are actually dozens of sites like this which free lancers aggregate at but these are the main ones. The key is to setup a great website, get some jobs from these sites and let every client you know about your main website. This way when they need more work it will be very easy for them to find you and this is very important. Whether you’re working full-time or going to school, Freelance Writing is a great way to earn a supplementary income and no official credentials are required. You’ll eventually build your biz by word of mouth and good customer service.

Don’t let anyone tell you this is a bad business. Millions of Internet Marketers are going to need tons of content written for them over the next decade. Throw yourself in the middle of it all so you can collect an extra paycheck.
