Regardless of how you approach it parenting teenagers is no small feat. You will likely see that this is a very chaotic time for teens and their parents. This article will give you some ideas on how to keep your relationship with your child positive.

It’s important for you to remember that you are not their best friend you are their parent. Many parents fall into the trap of trying so hard to remain close to their teenagers that they simply let them do whatever they want. Teenagers don’t always admit it but they really do want your advice and guidance. At times they also need certain limits, and if you don’t provide these, it’s unlikely anyone else will, at least not in a constructive way. Most kids who don’t have the necessary limits end up in trouble at school, and with the law. You don’t have to be authoritarian in your approach to parenting teenagers, but you have to let your teenager know that you care what they are doing and that some things are not allowed. One of the biggest influences a parent can have on their teenager is the example they provide. Parents often do not practice what they preach. Teens are more likely to drink or get high if their parents are doing it regardless of what the parents are telling them to do. You’ve probably experienced the parrot effect of your teens, they say what you say regardless of whether or not you’ve told them not to. Therefore, setting the example you want them to follow is one of the first principles of parenting teenagers.

Parenting teens often requires you to be the parent and now allow some things. When you don’t approve of their actions it’s important that you reinforce to them that you still love them and care about them even though their actions aren’t pleasing. What this means for you is that your discipline and rules need to be set within a state of neutrality rather than anger. Pick your battles carefully. It has to be clear that when you make rules, it’s for the well being and safety of everyone, not because you’re mad or that you don’t like them. You must keep the position as a parent who wants what is best for their child but also one who loves that child unconditionally. You’ll quickly find that this is not as easy as it looks. You can watch your teen grow into a budding adult despite the difficult moments. Remember you are not the only one going through a transition here, your teen is struggling as much as you are. We sincerely hope the tips here have been helpful in getting you through parenting a teenager.

“Planned Parenthood’s Worst Nightmare”, Young Teenage Girl Responds to a Teen Vogue Article
There are so many magazines published each day covering a multitude of topics and lifestyles that range for all age groups. One of these magazines is Teen Vogue. In their recent volume, Teen Vogue published an article titled, “What to Get a Friend Post Abortion”. Autumn and Students For Life responded to this outlandish article with a bold and sobering statement. Responding as one that Teen Vogue targets, teenagers, Autumn introduces herself, “Hello, I’m Autumn, and I’m 16…and since I’m a teen, this was directed at me.” She gives a brief overview of this article by stating, “The point of the article was to make the situation seem as light-hearted, and nonchalant as possible to convince girls my age that abortion is no big deal.” With that being said, she adds this important fact. “…abortion is a big deal, a very big deal.” She challenges Teen Vogue’s fantasyland description of abortion by admonishing with truth. “No one skips into that room as if they’re getting their hair highlighted or their nails painted.” She continues to express, “The thought of going into a room and having my baby surgically removed from my body is both terrifying and scary.”

If this article were not shocking enough on the surface, the list of ideas that Teen Vogue presents as viable options to the reality of “post-abortion” is additionally shocking. Autumn comments about some of these options, such as becoming an abortion escort, taking a friend to a comedy movie, or getting your friend a “GRL PWR” Hat. It is important that we know the truth behind what is being told to our teenagers.

One of the main ingredients in teen acne medication is salicylic acid, and while it does well, it can also dry your skin out. This can cause you several different problems not only is your skin known to dry out, but it may also may be producing more oil, causing more blemishes.

So when you use acne medication, check the potency of salicylic acid. If it’s extra high, make sure that you’re using it only on those spots on your face that are really causing you problems. Then use something with less salicylic acid in it for the rest of your face.

This means using an extra gentle cleanser before you apply any medication. In other words, all of this washing can actually dry your skin out causing more problems. Find the gentlest cleanser you can find then use it carefully, and make sure that you keep your hair out of your face, and your fingers off your skin. In other words, don’t pick your blemishes.

Once you have gone through a gentle cleansing, then it’s time for your salicylic acid medication. After you use your medication, you may find that some acne treatments recommend another treatment. Make sure you follow through, often this is to allow the salicylic acid to do its job, and still neutralize it later.

This means extra careful attention to detail with your skin. Remember, you can’t do much about your genetics but using the proper acne treatment can help.

Remember, salicylic acid is great to treat teenage acne, but it can be over used causing various patches of dry flaky skin on your face. This is not going to help your skin reduce your acne. Before we take a look into the different methods that can be implemented to prevent teenage pregnancy let’s see what facts does a recent study reveals. The particular research looks into certain facts that teacher, counselors, parents and even the school administrators should be aware of:

* Even though the teen pregnancy rate has shown a decline in the United States over the past decade, the rate is still significantly higher than that of other industrialized countries.
* Each year, between the ages of 15 to 19 years, over half a million teenagers gives birth in the United States.
* The incidence of teenage pregnancy is seen more among poor young women of color in the United States.
* Children who are born to such teen mothers are more likely to have been abused.
* During their pregnancy period they are more likely to be physically abused than adult women.
* The United States Government spends over $ 7 billion each year towards expenses related to teenage pregnancy.
* Only 30 – 35% of teen mothers continue to complete their High School education.

Now, let’s take a look at how Public schools can adopt the four methodologies outlined in the Character Education curriculum to prevent teenage pregnancies. Public schools do play a crucial role in implementing Character Education as they serve more than 60 million children in this country.

1. All schools should uphold the value of self-esteem and academic success which in turn will help in reducing the possibility of immoral behavior among teenagers.

* Through teaching the value of Character a teenager feels competent enough to attain their career of choice and a satisfying relationship with their family, peers and others.

Character education not only should the incidence of teenage pregnancy but also should promote student achievement. All schools need to set high principles and values for all their students and should embrace proper evaluation and testing strategies to implement effective character education curriculum.

4. Teachers, counselors, school administrators and parents need to work mutually to share a common vision about character education curriculum that is more effective in order to impart in all students.

Academic instruction isn’t the only responsibility teachers have in today’s classrooms. More and more, teachers are being called on to teach students about values … things like making good decisions, the showing of respect, taking responsibility, choosing friends, and having a positive attitude.  It’s a responsibility that could be overwhelming, considering the limited hours available in a school day, the number of kids in the classroom, and the diversity of backgrounds and personalities each child represents.

It is generally acknowledged that teenage drivers are at high risk of being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Nearly every day there are reports of yet more accidents concerning teenage drivers. Many of these accidents have two or more teenagers in the car, have multiple victims, and involve pedestrian victims. In this article we look at 4 reported accidents. One of the cases resulted in serious injuries. The additional 3 involve a fatality.

This motor vehicle collision was caused by a sixteen year-old driver who was driving under a junior license. The accident took place at around 9:20 on a Tuesday evening. The junior license prohibited driving after 9 pm. The driver lost control of his car, hit another car, and then slammed into a 65 year-old male pedestrian who was waiting at a bus stop. The victim died from his injuries a short time after being hit. The driver survived the accident with only minor injuries. He was, however, arrested and charged with speeding, manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.

This accident involved an eighteen year-old driver who was driving while intoxicated. The incident took place on a Sunday morning at roughly 2:30. Most drunk driving accidents happen on weekend nights. As outlined by the report the victim in this accident was struck while crossing a road. The victim was a 44 year old male. Because of the accident he suffered major head injuries. After the accident the teenage drunk driver was arrested and was charged with driving under the influence and with driving while intoxicated.

This accident involved an 18 year-old male driving in a residential community at approximately 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The accident occurred when the teenaged driver lost control of his car. It turned forcefully and flipped, striking a pedestrian who had just left his car so as to get a pamphlet from the front yard of one of the homes. The home was for sale and had a sign and the pamphlets in the front yard. After hitting the man the car continued until it was ultimately stopped when it struck a tree in front of the house. The victim died as a result of his injuries. He was sixty seven years old.

This accident involved a nineteen year-old female driver also driving in a residential community. She hit a woman who was in front of her home tending to her flower bed. The car hit her with such force that she was thrown nearly 150 feet into a truck parked in her driveway. The teenaged driver did not stop at the scene of the accident. About 30 minutes after the accident the police located the young driver and placed her under arrest. They located her not far from the scene of the accident. She stated she was returning to the scene to admit she had caused the accident.

On a personal level it is sad to have to read about these accidents. These types of accidents are true tragedies. Victims who survive the accident are often left with injuries that result in permanent disabilities. In situations involving a fatality the family of the victim suffers the loss of a loved one. Even the life of the teen driver is forever changed.

At those times when these accidents do take place an experienced attorney may be of great help to victims and the families of victims. The lawyer can help them be heard, that their rights are protected and that all sources of possible recovery are thoroughly pursued.
